The surgeon
A plastic surgeon for more than twenty-five years, Dr Knipper divides his time between his practice in the 7th arrondissement, the Clinique du Trocadéro and the Georges Pompidou European Hospital. He performs as much reconstructive as cosmetic surgery, “and it is fascinating!”
Procedures
Each procedure has a PDF information sheet (in French), produced under the aegis of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Plastic and cosmetic surgery of the nose: it reshapes the nasal pyramid, partly or as a whole, and sometimes corrects a breathing problem.
→Cosmetic surgery of the upper, lower or all four eyelids, to remove hereditary or age-related imperfections.
→The most frequently performed lift: it corrects ageing of the neck and face, from the temples down to the jowls, by repositioning the tissues and re-tensioning the skin.
→Lift of the forehead and temples performed endoscopically: a mini-camera guides the procedure, limiting surgical trauma and greatly reducing scars.
→Otoplasty reshapes ears considered too visible by correcting the cartilage anomalies responsible for their protruding appearance.
→Micrografts have transformed this surgery: hair taken from the crown, where it will never fall out, is transferred to the front and the vertex.
→Reduction of an excessive breast volume, often combined with sagging and with physical (neck, shoulder and back pain), functional and psychological consequences.
→Sagging of the gland and stretching of the skin: the breast sits too low.
→Increasing breast volume with implants, when the breasts have always been underdeveloped or after weight loss or pregnancy.
→Correction of excess skin and fat on the abdominal wall, up to a genuine apron of skin and fat.
→Permanently removes localised fat deposits that resist diet and exercise.
→Reinjection of one's own fat (lipofilling) to fill or reshape.
→When the skin of the inner thighs is loose, liposuction alone is not enough: the thigh lift removes the excess skin and re-tensions it in depth.
→The arm lift (brachioplasty) corrects loose skin on the inner arms, common after repeated weight loss, when liposuction alone is not enough.
→Surgical removal of skin lesions when this is considered preferable, and treatment of abnormal or unsightly scars.
→Injections of fluid products to reshape certain areas of the face or fill wrinkles, folds and hollows: a gentle, non-surgical cosmetic medicine technique.
→Cosmetic injections of a muscle-relaxing substance that reduces the contraction of the muscles responsible for certain expression lines.
→Mechanical abrasion of the skin with a rotating brush or burr, whose speed and pressure are controlled by the surgeon.
→After mastectomy, the simplest method of reconstruction when the skin and pectoral muscle allow it.
→The latissimus dorsi flap uses skin and muscle from the back, often with an implant, to recreate breast volume after mastectomy.
→An original rectus abdominis flap technique: excess skin and fat from the abdomen is moved up to the chest to rebuild the breast.
→Hand surgery and microsurgery (hand emergencies and SOS Mains unit at the Georges Pompidou European Hospital), burn sequelae, reconstruction after accidents or mutilation.
